Intervals Of Being

In Intervals of Being, I explore the tension between structure and atmosphere, solidity and breath. Block-like passages of saturated color punctuate softer veils, creating rhythms across the canvas that are both architectural and musical. These intervals of weight and release function like visual chords, holding space while allowing openness to emerge around them.

This series represents a pivotal evolution in my practice, bringing together earlier explorations of monumental density and luminous openness into a dynamic cadence. The works resist resolution, instead suspending viewers within moments of presence—each block a pause, each mark a beat, each field a resonance. Through rhythm, interruption, and release, Intervals of Being embodies the layered pulse of lived experience.

My painting process is both physical and intuitive—an act of presence as much as expression. I paint standing, often moving with the energy of the moment. When the work calls for expansive gestures or heavy layers, I bring the canvas to the floor, allowing my body to fully engage.

I work with acrylic, India ink, charcoal, oil pastels, and graphite—materials that let me shift between gesture and subtlety, texture and fluidity. Nothing is mapped in advance. Each mark is a surrender to intuition, a record of trust and response.

For me, painting is a spiritual act as much as a visual one. The rawness, the urgency, and the intentional layering all become invitations inward—for myself in process, and for the viewer in reception.
